We’re planning to improve the new Council reserve at the entrance to The Pines Beach.

As part of the Recovery Plan for Kaiapoi, a new reserve was created at the entrance to The Pines Beach on Dunns Avenue. This new reserve extends from Beach Road to Chichester Street and includes the old community hall site. We’re planning a natural reserve that includes:

  • A new 2.0m wide gravel path between Beach Road and Chichester Street
  • Levelling and improving the open grass area
  • Replanting along the Beach Road swale and Kairaki Stream wetland edge with native plants
  • Tidying up the existing trees on site and planting new trees and native plants.

Reid Memorial Reserve

When we were planning the new entrance reserve, the community told us that Reid Memorial Reserve is also an important part of the entrance to The Pines Beach. While we currently have no funding for major changes at Reid Memorial Reserve, we have worked on a draft design for future improvements and will explore funding options with our colleagues in Greenspace.

Next steps

Works on The Pines Beach entrance reserve are planned for March-April 2021. If you have any questions or comments on the planned improvements please let us know your thoughts by 12 February 2021.
