As part of the wider Dudley Skate Park Redevelopment project the Waimakariri Youth Council have been working on a mural design to be located on the wall of the Rangiora Squash Club at Dudley Park.
The Redevelopment Project started in response to negative attention in local newspapers and around the community about bullying, drugs, alcohol and anti-social behaviour in and around the skate park.
The Youth Council’s aspiration is that we can help to create a space which is not ‘owned’ by any one group of young people and is a community-friendly ‘hub’.
The Youth Council has received a grant from Creative Communities for the mural and are engaging directly with local schools to hear from local students who use the park regularly.
This project continues to seek the feedback from the community about various stages. This survey is designed to collect feedback on what the community think is important to Waimakariri that could be included in the mural.
We will work with a local artist who will use the community feedback to design a mural that provides a wonderful piece of art that reflects what’s important to people and how they feel about Waimakariri.
