Submit your entry to the Waimakariri Environmental Awards for 2025.
The purpose of the Environmental Awards is to celebrate the inspirational projects, groups and people championing environmental protection, conservation, restoration or sustainability, within the Waimakariri District.
Guidelines
Who can apply?
There are three award categories:
• Youth - 18 or under (could also be a youth group)
• Individual
• Group/Organisation - commercial companies, volunteer groups, NGOs (whether formal or informal)
Criteria for the judging of the award are:
To what extent does your project/group/person:
- Advancing knowledge in ecological fields
- Increased indigenous biodiversity
- Working towards climate sustainability
- Enhancing environmental connection
- Improved mahinga kai/food security
To what extent does the nominee contribute to: Undertaking, championing, or inspiring environmental protection, conservation, or restoration?
To what extent is the nominee’s contribution focused on Waimakariri District?
To what extent has the nominee’s input been successful?
Interaction with the wider community:
- Youth: has the nominee shown leadership of their peers? In the wider community?
- Group/organisation: has the group/organisation involved and motivated others in the wider community?
- Individual: has the nominee involved and motivated others in the wider community?
How to apply
Applications can be submitted online by clicking on the blue 'Submit An Entry' box below or printed application forms can be scanned and emailed to biodiversity@wmk.govt.nz or hand delivered to any Waimakariri District Council libraries or service centres.
Applications will be accepted up until the closing date. Posted applications must arrive by the closing date advertised on the website. Applicants are encouraged to attach supporting documents, such as trust deeds, annual reports, strategic plans, or work programmes.
Applications without any supporting documents will still be considered, but applicants may be asked for more information.
NOTE:
The Council hereby undertakes to all applicants that information concerning private property supplied in this application, or obtained when assessing it, will be used by the Council for no purpose other than for assessing the application or if considered appropriate, for publicity purposes. However, once an application has been received, the information contained within it becomes public information, accessible by members of the public when requested. By lodging the application, the applicant agrees that if an award is given to the applicant, the applicant’s name and photo may be publicised, and used for publicity purposes.
