Understanding the Play Needs of Young Children and Their Caregivers

Across the Waimakariri District, we’re working to create play environments that are inclusive, engaging and supportive of the needs of tamariki (young children) and their caregivers.

Play is a vital part of early childhood development. It helps tamariki build confidence, explore their creativity, and connect with others. But not all play spaces meet the needs of every whānau. That’s why we’re gathering insights from our community, to better understand what makes a space truly welcoming and accessible.

This survey is part of a wider kaupapa (initiative) to ensure our public spaces reflect the diverse needs of those who use them. Whether it’s the design of playgrounds, the types of equipment available, or how spaces support caregivers, your feedback will help guide future improvements.

Thank you for being part of this important kōrero. Together, we can create spaces that support play, connection and wellbeing for everyone.
