The Waimakariri District is growing rapidly and will have 30,000 new residents calling it their home by 2050 with an estimated population of 100,000! The Council must plan for this future growth; this includes looking after the vibrancy and functionality of our town centres.

Much of the land in our two main town centres of Rangiora and Kaiapoi is already developed and there isn't much land available to build more places to park on.

We've heard the frustrations about how it can be hard to find a park. Because of this, growth that we’re expecting, and a number of other factors that might affect how we plan for our parking, the Council will be developing Parking Management Plans for Rangiora and Kaiapoi town centres, to make sure parking meets the needs of the centres and visitors today, tomorrow and in the future (plans for other District towns will be developed at a later date) .

In this survey we want to ask some exploratory questions to get a sense of what locals value in parking, and what interventions and options you see as the most suitable for our town centres.

Your feedback will be shared with the Council, alongside previous survey information on parking, and will help to inform the options we explore further. Once some proposals to underpin future Parking Management Plans are developed, we will be undertaking wide community consultation to hear what you think, in early 2025.
