Let's talk about Parking on Coronation Street in Rangiora

Council has received a number of service requests in relation to conflicts between parked vehicles and through traffic on Coronation Street. Staff understand the concerns relate to the road being too narrow to accommodate two lanes of traffic, confusion about whether cars are parked near the intersection or queuing, and visibility when exiting driveways.

What are the changes?

Consideration is being given to installing a no-stopping restriction for a length of 55m between the driveway to no. 31 and Southbrook Road.

This is shown in yellow on the image below and would remove four on-street carparks. If approved, this restriction would be in effect at all times.

When the Southbrook Road / Coronation Street intersection design was undertaken, Coronation Street was intentionally designed to operate with a narrow roadway to encourage low speeds and discourage rat-running traffic to and from Southbrook via Buckleys Road.

The full report on this request can be found on pp. 28-32 at https://www.waimakariri.govt.nz/__data/assets/pdf_file/0028/178372/Agenda-Rangiora-Ashley-Community…
