We’re creating a District Parking Strategy, which plans for how public car parking in Waimakariri will be designed, built and managed over the coming years.
Quality parking is important, it supports the local economy by allowing visitors and locals to easily access business, retail and recreational activities in our town centres and other key areas.
As our population is expected to grow from approximately 65,000 in 2021 to nearly 100,000 by 2048, we’ll need to consider increasing the parking supply to accommodate new residents and meet the growing needs of our communities.
We’ll need to do this responsibly, by making good use of available land, our finances, and new transport technologies while also carefully considering any climate change impacts.
By answering the six questions below, you will help us understand how people are using parking facilities, what the community views as key issues and gather feedback on how the Council might build, manage and fund an increased parking supply for the future.
