Consultation has concluded

The Council are currently developing a cycleway network through Kaiapoi.

The Council engaged with the residents on Peraki Street and Vickery Street over the last year to hear their feedback. This was carried out in a number of ways in which we discussed the design options in the proposal and listened to residents to better understand their concerns.

Based on residents’ feedback, a working group was set up to with the purpose of engaging in constructive discussion about how to implement the Council’s cycleway strategy in a safe and convenient manner, while managing the effects on the residents. It had representatives from Peraki/Vickery Streets and the wider community.

The next step is this survey asking all the residents in Peraki and Vickery Streets for more feedback specifically around the design. This feedback together with the outcome from the working group will be included in a report to the Kaiapoi-Tuahiwi Community Board so they can make a recommendation on the direction of the project.

The Board meet on Monday 14 December and their recommendation will go to Council’s Utilities and Roading Committee on Tuesday 15 December for a final decision.

This neighbourhood cycleway will link the Passchendaele Memorial Path cycleway in Rangiora through Kaiapoi on to Christchurch via the Christchurch Northern Corridor project, making it safer and easier for people to cycle between the Waimakariri District and Christchurch.

This project is a continuation of the Main North Road cycleway currently being constructed.
