Consultation has concluded.
We’re thinking about installing a regulation disc golf course inside Kaiapoi Domain.
The course would consist of nine-holes with baskets and tee pads, and will be free for anyone to play.
Disc golf is continuing to grow in popularity with fifty courses across Aotearoa New Zealand.
Kaiapoi Domain would be the first course in North Canterbury and the equipment would be community funded through fundraising and sponsorship, with Council providing access to Kaiapoi Domain to host the course.
What is disc golf?
Disc golf is a flying disc sport where players throw a disc at a target or basket. Disc golf uses rules similar to golf with the aim to complete each “hole” in the fewest number of strokes or throws. The disc is thrown from a tee area towards an elevated metal basket called a Pole Hole. As the player progresses towards the hole, they must make each consecutive shot from the spot where the previous throw landed until their disk lands in the basket.
Trees, shrubs and other environmental obstacles located on the course provide an additional challenge for players to navigate as they make their way down the fairway.
Disc golf can be enjoyed by all ages and ability levels, making it a great, accessible sport for the community.
